KATE KELLER

Kate Keller was Head of the Fine Arts Photography and Photo Imaging Studio for twenty-nine years at MoMA - The Museum of Modern Art, New York City. She was involved with diverse projects that included the film documentation of the dismantling of Picasso's painting Guernica before its installation in Spain and the Museum's transition from analog photography to digital imaging.

Keller was a consultant on the initial restoration and printing of Jean Cocteau's original negatives in Billy Klüver's publication, A Day with Picasso, Twenty-four Photographs by Jean Cocteau, 1997, published by The MIT Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts and London, England. She co-authored "Preparing Your Portfolio", a chapter in Lee Evan Caplin's book, The Business of Art, 1982, published by Prentiss-Hall, Inc., Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Her photographs were featured in the San Francisco Art Institute Centennial Exhibition, 1971. Since 2000, she has been a principal of Moe's Meat Market, a gallery, located in Nolita, on Elizabeth Street, New York City.

Kate Keller was born 1946, in Toledo, Ohio. She received a B.A. from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, with a major in photography studying under the tutelage of Clarence H. White Jr. and Arnold Gassan. A long-time resident of New York City, she resides in both Hawaii and New York City with her husband Robert Kobayashi and daughter Misa.

Artist Statement

The detailed digital imaging of flowers conveys the startling beauty of a single flower or a decaying bloom on stark black backgrounds. The simplicity of capturing botanical compositions belies the power and complexity of nature's cycle.
